Who is covered
Buildings with a fire pump serving the sprinkler/standpipe system — typically high-rise sprinklered/standpipe buildings.
What the law requires
- Run the recurring churn test per pump driver type (many electric and all diesel pumps require weekly).
- Schedule the annual flow-performance test with a qualified contractor and record the curve.
- Log all tests; correct deficiencies promptly.
Filing frequency and deadlines
Penalty structure
Non-compliance with Fire Pump can result in the following penalties:
- FDNY violation for a fire pump not tested on schedule; impairs sprinkler/standpipe protection.
Exemptions
- Buildings with no fire pump.
Recent updates and amendments
Commonly understated: NFPA 20/25 require weekly churn for many electric and all diesel pumps — not monthly-only.
