Local Law 75 — Roll-Down Security Grille Transparency

Storefront roll-down security grilles on Group B/M properties must be at least 70% open (visibility grilles). Solid roll-down grilles must be replaced by July 1, 2026.

Group B (business) and Group M (mercantile) storefronts with roll-down security grilles.

What the law requires

  • Replace solid roll-down grilles with models that provide at least 70% open area.
  • Retain installation documentation to prove compliance.
  • Coordinate with commercial tenants on cost allocation per lease.

Penalty structure

Non-compliance with LL75 can result in the following penalties:

  • Major DOB violation; summons to OATH.
  • Non-compliant solid grilles must be replaced regardless of tenant objection.

Exemptions

  • Residential buildings.
  • Non-roll-down security measures (scissor gates, lift gates with no solid slats).

Recent updates and amendments

Enforcement begins July 2026. Landmarked storefronts must coordinate with LPC on compliant product selection.
